When I was in high school i was a part of an acrobatics team called “Aerials”. We are having a 25th reunion in May, so I put together this quick animoto to promote it. I can’t believe how I was able to do all this stuff, it was so much fun, best memories of my high school days. I hope to put together a much longer video montage and showcase it at the reunion. Maybe help promote my business a little too. (see if you can spot me a few times)
I made a compilation of the milestone events in our family in 2008 along with a few other significant events. I showed it at our annual Boxing Day party – which we have had going for the past 15 years straight (since my wife and I were dating). I look forward to 2009 and whatever it may hold.
My son, Nathan, celebrated his 13th Birthday on December 17th. This has been a year for milestones (wife,’s 40th, neice’s 21st, mom-mom’s 60th) – and so how appropriate to end this year with another significant birthday. Nathan is such a respectful child and a joy to parent (he has his lazy moments), i just hope he doesn’t turn into a crazy teenager – is that too much to ask ?
My god-neice, Jazzy, is 12 today and so I made her a quick vid clip to celebrate. It’s amazing how time flies, next thing I know she will be 21 like my neice Tamela — it’s so great to watch them grow up.
Being the Kanye fan that I am, I will be entering into an online contest for creating a commercial for his forth coming album “808’s and Heartbreak”. I have a few ideas mulling around, this is my first draft, still kinda rough but got my ideas out.
I won the online contest !!! version 1 is what they liked. My first recognized accomplishment for my work, from a great source.
We black people have been awaiting this day forever !!! The pride I’m feeling right now is too much to describe, because it is so BIG, I received an email today that has a quote that sums it up very well:
”Rosa Parks sat so that Martin Luther King could walk. Martin Luther King walked so that Obama could run. Obama ran so that our children could fly.”
I am going to take this opportunity to expand on how I feel about this day in history. Especially speaking from a Black male’s perspective, and having some negative stereotypes about us that could hold us back. This changes everything, it makes you feel like you can shoot for the stars and accomplish whatever you set out to do. There are some people there that still want to connect his name with Osama Bin Laden (some fool at work used that remark today)… There will always be naysayers, but what we should say to each other when we need uplifting is “YES WE CAN !!”
To continue with the milestones, Lezly’s mom celebrates her 60th birthday this month. We had a great time down in Orlando with Patricia (aka Mom-mom) and Foster. We only got to stay 5 days, and they will be there for 10 days total. This little vid is a birthday greeting for Mom-mom, which was on October 15th.
Mom, sorry I didn’t get to show you while we were there – I didn’t have it all put together like this at the time. I hope you enjoy !!
This is a milestone year for my wife, Lezly, who turns 40 on October 12th. She has told me for quite sometime that she wanted a big deal to be made of her 40th – either a cruise or a huge party she said. Well how about a bit of both? We are going to Florida on Saturday (without any kids, this time) and will be there to celebrate her mother’s 60th with her. I am also throwing a surprise birthday dinner at a nice restaurant (she doesn’t read my blog so I know she wont find out), and of course I had to put together a quick vid for her too.
Something I couldn’t quite fit into the vid but wanted to express about Lezly is how much I truly love and appreciate her… there is a song from Musiq that helps me express it, here are the lyrics:
Verse 1:
Back when I was just me
You were always there to help me and support my dreams
And you’ve encouraged me to see (and)
Want so much more out of life
And you said nevermind your fears,
Cause soon they will pass in time
And I want to thank you see cause…
Chorus:
All I am and all that I will ever be
Is because of you and I am proud to say
That you you helped me into what I am today
I applaud you for being so patient with me
All I am and all that I will ever be
Is because of you and I am proud to say
No one else could do what you have done for me
You mean the world to me (yeah)
Verse 2:
There were times when I was so
Frustrated with you,
I felt I didn’t want you no more
But then I realized,
That without you I would be so alone (yeah)
But I chose to deal with you
Whether right or wrong
And I’m so glad I did cause…
Chorus (x1)
Bridge:
See you came and changed my life
You turned and empty heart into a work of art
And opened my eyes to the world
I would have never known, for that I’m grateful
You are my pride and my joy
The closest thing to me next to the God above
And will forever be my first love
And I’m always gonna give my all to you
Sorry for the long post, but I had to really pour out my feelings on this one.
Often times we start things and not finish… it took me 10 years to finally get the last credit I needed to get my College Diploma in HR. My sister, Charmaine, has been wanting to be a teacher from ever since I can remember. That dream has finally come true, as she graduates the University of Winnipeg with her degree (B.A and B. Ed) this month. We are so proud of you Charms – I put this little vid together to celebrate this momentous occasion. There will be an article in the Winnipeg newspaper about her achievement, I will post it here when I get a chance to scan it. But here is a quote that starts off the article, that my Dad thought was very appropriate:
“The heights by great men reached and kept, were not obtained by sudden flight. But they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.”
